Jon Jones has addressed critics who have labeled him a `duck` for not actively pursuing a fight against interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall. Despite the online chatter, the current UFC Heavyweight champion maintains a positive outlook, stating he is simply enjoying his life to the fullest.
Jones, who secured the vacant title in March 2023 following Francis Ngannou`s departure from the organization and defended it once against the retiring Stipe Miocic last November, questioned the validity of the `ducking` accusation during a recent Instagram session. He suggested that living well doesn`t seem consistent with intentionally avoiding challenges.
Meanwhile, Tom Aspinall, who holds an impressive 8-1 record in the UFC heavyweight division and recently defended his interim belt by defeating Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 to avenge his only professional loss, has made it clear he desires a matchup with Jones. However, he is also expressing growing impatience regarding the situation.
Speaking on the High Performance Podcast, Aspinall indicated that he believes Jones may recognize the significant threat he poses, particularly given his stats, size, and recent performances. Aspinall speculated that this understanding might lead Jones to seek substantial financial compensation before agreeing to such a high-risk bout.
Ultimately, Aspinall concluded by expressing his frustration with the ongoing discussion, stating he is “well bored” of the situation. He reiterated his readiness for the fight to happen soon or, alternatively, to move on and pursue other opponents within the division.
