Preview Jon Jones ready to ‘lead the pack’ in 100 humans vs. 1 gorilla battle but ‘I would need a lot of help’

While many regard Jon Jones as perhaps the greatest fighter in history, he admits that even his skills would fall short if he were to face a silverback gorilla alone.

A recent peculiar online conversation began with a viral tweet posing the question of whether a group of 100 humans could defeat a single gorilla. This sparked responses from a wide range of people, including celebrities, social media personalities, scientists, and fellow fighters. Notably, UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili confidently claimed he could handle the ape by himself.

Despite currently holding the UFC heavyweight title, Jones acknowledged he would require significant assistance to accomplish such a feat.

“One hundred men definitely beats up a gorilla,” Jones told TMZ. “When you think about the intelligence of the human being, we’ve conquered the planet. So the animals shouldn’t be a problem to us.

“Definitely not solo. I would need a lot of help but you get a bunch of guys from the NFL roster, a bunch of heavier guys from the UFC roster and we’d have that thing down in no time. Let me lead the pack. I’d like to be part of the first wave if we did that.”

Interestingly, the most frequently suggested “winning strategy” posits that the initial attackers would likely be severely injured by the gorilla, but the sheer overwhelming numbers of the subsequent humans would eventually subdue the animal.

This potential danger did not seem to discourage Jones from offering to be at the forefront of the hypothetical confrontation.

That said, Jones couldn`t help but find the entire scenario amusing, especially considering gorillas have no inherent desire to fight humans.

“I’d love to be one of the 100. I think it’s such a funny topic,” Jones said. “Everyone’s so serious about fighting this damn gorilla. What did the gorilla do to us? What did he do? It’s a funny debate.”
