While Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall may not see eye-to-eye on everything, they are currently in agreement on one crucial point: allowing the UFC to be the first to disclose any information about their potential showdown.
Jones, who is currently in Thailand filming a reality television series, held a seminar over the past weekend. During the event, he was questioned about the timeline for his anticipated heavyweight title unification bout against Aspinall. Jones had previously indicated that the UFC was aware of his future plans, which could explain why the promotion has not publicly addressed calls for him to be stripped of his title.
It`s only been six months since Jones last competed, and it appears he has been in discussions with the UFC about his potential return date.
Speaking to the seminar attendees, Jones stated, “There`s a lot happening behind the scenes involving the UFC, myself, and Tom. They are a major sports organization, and currently, Tom and I have mutually decided to wait for the UFC to make any official announcements. Therefore, I`m not really able to discuss it legally.”
Aspinall recently echoed a similar sentiment after initially teasing news on social media. He quickly tempered expectations by emphasizing that he does not announce his own fights and leaves that role strictly to the UFC.
For several weeks now, Jones and Aspinall have been engaging in public back-and-forth exchanges through interviews and social media posts, reflecting growing frustration over the lack of concrete information regarding their potential clash.
UFC CEO Dana White has repeatedly guaranteed that he will make the fight happen. However, Aspinall has consistently voiced his own frustration, particularly as he approaches a full year of inactivity since his last victory.
Although Jones`s latest comments don`t offer definitive answers, they do suggest he is actively communicating with the UFC and acknowledges that a fight against Aspinall is the highly anticipated matchup the public wants to see.
Will this fight ultimately take place? Only time and official announcements from the UFC will provide the answer.
