Joe Pyfer is no longer participating in UFC Mexico due to a late withdrawal.
UFC announced on Saturday that Pyfer had to pull out of his main card fight against Kelvin Gastelum because of illness. As a result, the flyweight match between Edgar Chairez and CJ Vergara has been moved up from the preliminary card, according to UFC.com.
Both Pyfer and Gastelum were scheduled to compete for the first time in 2025, seeking to build on victories from their previous fights in June. At UFC 303, Pyfer achieved a first-round knockout against Marc-Andre Barriault, while Gastelum secured a decision victory over Daniel Rodriguez at a Fight Night event in Saudi Arabia.
It remains uncertain whether the fight between Pyfer and Gastelum will be rescheduled for a future event or if they will be matched up with different opponents.
UFC Mexico`s main event will now feature a flyweight contenders` match between Brandon Moreno, a two-time champion, and Steve Erceg, a recent title challenger. The event will proceed with a total of 12 fights.
