World No. 60 Joao Fonseca shared his thoughts on whether the men`s professional tennis tour aligns with his childhood expectations.
“It`s a tricky question. I think it does. Perhaps when you watch tennis on television, you see the top players relishing their wins. However, it`s not that simple; it`s a step-by-step journey: Futures, Challengers, the struggle to break into the Top 100. It`s a long journey to the main tour events.”
“When I was a kid watching tennis, I dreamed of being here and imagined it would be easy. But no, the road is long. Luckily, I progressed quickly by playing some great tournaments and reached this level now.”
“It`s a great experience. When you reach these kinds of tournaments, everything is fantastic. Everything is perfectly organized – catering, accommodation. But when you`re fighting through Futures and Challengers, it`s far from perfect. That`s my perspective,” said the 18-year-old Brazilian after his Miami Masters round of 32 defeat.
