World No. 4 Jessica Pegula shared her thoughts on her loss to Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the Miami Open WTA 1000 tournament (5-7, 2-6).
“I managed to break her serve and put pressure on it, which is one of the strongest aspects of her game. However, I couldn`t consistently hold my own serve and capitalize on those breaks, and I believe that was the decisive factor,” Pegula stated, referring to her inability to maintain a break advantage in both sets.
“The wind also made things challenging. Both of us found it difficult to hold serve because after a good return, it was hard to control the ball effectively. While we are both strong players, she managed her serve better and played some very extended games. I was often playing from behind, even though I was reacting well, moving around the court, getting into good attacking positions, and hitting the ball cleanly.”
“Over the past two weeks, my movement has been excellent, and I`ve significantly improved my serve, winning many more points on it. Unfortunately, today was an exception. I hope to carry this progress forward throughout the rest of the season,” Pegula mentioned during the press conference.
