Jean Silva put on a dominant performance Saturday night, fulfilling his promise of a decisive finish against Bryce Mitchell in their highly anticipated UFC 314 match.
Despite a measured start, Silva quickly found his rhythm, outstriking Mitchell and effectively defending against all takedown attempts. After a second-round knockdown, Silva pressed his advantage, securing a remarkable ninja choke submission that forced Mitchell to tap out just as he lost consciousness.
The fight concluded at 3:52 of the second round.
“I’m the next champion!” Silva exclaimed. He also expressed surprise at Mitchell’s glove touch attempt and concern for Mitchell’s well-being, stating, “I hope and pray and help out Bryce Mitchell because I don’t think he’s right in the head.”
Mitchell displayed nervous energy at the beginning of the fight and landed a couple of decent kicks. Silva initially smiled and absorbed the strikes, gradually increasing his offensive output as the first round progressed.
Towards the end of the first round, Silva unleashed a spinning heel kick followed by a guillotine choke, putting Mitchell in serious danger just before the bell.
In the second round, Silva settled into a groove and landed a powerful right hand that dropped Mitchell. Instead of going to the ground, Silva allowed Mitchell to stand, continuing the striking battle.
Mitchell became more desperate with his takedown attempts, but Silva easily shrugged them off. Utilizing superior speed and power, Silva punished Mitchell with strikes before capitalizing on another grappling attempt to lock in the fight-ending ninja choke.
Mitchell tried to escape the choke by rolling, but this only tightened Silva’s grip, leading to Mitchell being submitted and losing consciousness moments later.
Having called out Mitchell after his previous victory, Silva exceeded expectations at UFC 314 and establishes himself as a significant threat in the featherweight division. He boasts a perfect 5-0 UFC record, with all wins coming by knockout or submission.
