Preview Inter President Marotta: “Evolution, Not Revolution” for Squad’s Future

Inter President Beppe Marotta has stated that the club’s focus for the future of their squad is on “evolution and not revolution.” This approach, he believes, has been key to their current Double-winning season, built upon existing foundations.

Following their Scudetto triumph, Inter secured their 10th Coppa Italia by defeating Lazio 2-0. This marks their first Double since the 2010 season, which also saw them win the Champions League under Jose Mourinho.

The team’s success this season, especially after ending the previous one without silverware and with a coaching change to Cristian Chivu, was not widely anticipated. Chivu had limited senior management experience in Serie A prior to his appointment.

Marotta emphasized the collective effort behind Inter’s success. “There is a team on the field and one off it too, made up of the management and all those who work behind the scenes for the club, so I want to thank all of them tonight. It really is a team sport and everyone gave their contribution,” he told Sport Mediaset.

He highlighted the club’s consistent positive results in recent years, attributing them to strong leadership from the owners and a sustainable model. While acknowledging the disappointment of last year, Marotta praised Chivu for guiding the team back on track.

Despite a minor setback with their Champions League elimination to Bodo/Glimt, which allowed them to concentrate on domestic competitions, Inter is already planning for the future. The club’s transfer strategy aims to reinforce existing foundations rather than undergo sweeping changes.

“I am very optimistic, albeit respectful of our opponents. We believe in evolution and not revolution, so young players like Petar Sucic require time to get settled and develop,” Marotta explained. “We will continue to identify talented young players who we can help to grow, combining them with experienced figures who have the winning mentality already ingrained.

“There’s no need to change all that much. Unfortunately, some players are coming to the end of their contracts, and this is a physiological issue, we cannot fight time. We are ready to again gradually introduce young players, there is no need for a revolution.”

Key players nearing the end of their contracts include Francesco Acerbi, Stefan de Vrij, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Yann Sommer, and Matteo Darmian.
