Harry Kane`s long-awaited first major trophy might be within reach soon. His move to Bayern Munich almost two years ago has proven beneficial in numerous ways, according to the player himself.
With Bayern Munich holding a significant six-point lead in the Bundesliga with only seven games remaining, they are strong favorites to secure the title. This victory would potentially silence critics who believe his lack of trophies diminishes his status as one of the greatest goalscorers of his generation. However, at 31, Kane insists that the quest for trophies is not his primary motivator.
In a CBS Sports Golazo Network interview, Kane stated, “I know there`s much talk about trophies, but whether I end up with one or twenty, it won`t change my mentality.” He emphasized, “Every day, I strive to be the best person, teammate, and player I can be. I feel I`m currently in my prime and want to compete at the highest level for as long as possible.”
Kane`s consistent high performance, which he previously demonstrated with Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, has seamlessly translated to the Bundesliga, surprising few. This season, he has scored 33 goals in 38 games across all competitions for Bayern. While statistically similar to his past achievements, Kane believes his transfer in 2023 has facilitated his growth as a player, especially in the context of competing for major titles. Bayern`s trophy ambitions this season also extend to the UEFA Champions League, where they are set to face Inter in the quarterfinals, aiming for a final appearance at their home stadium on May 31st.
Kane explained, “Consistently competing at the highest level, in the most important matches, is what distinguishes top players.” He added, “There were periods at Tottenham where we contended at the highest level, but there were also years where we didn`t. Being able to perform consistently year after year against the best teams and defenders and maintain a high level of play is what I find most rewarding.”
Kane also credited Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany for contributing to his development.
“I`ve been particularly impressed with his tactical coaching abilities,” Kane remarked. “Our playing style this season, characterized by a high press, man-to-man marking, ball possession, high intensity, and counter-pressing, is excellent and very attacking.”
He continued, “Kompany has always been recognized as a strong leader, both as a player and now as a coach. He treats everyone equally, regardless of their experience. He provides honest feedback, highlighting both strengths and weaknesses, which the players respect. I believe I`ve already improved during our time working together, and he`s refined aspects of my game, which is all I can ask for. I`m thoroughly enjoying working with him.”
