
Today marks the 29th birthday of Russian professional tennis player Karen Khachanov. We join in the many congratulations extended to Karen and wish him continued success both on and off the court.
Karen Khachanov was born on May 21, 1996, in Moscow. His father, Abgar, played volleyball at a high level before pursuing a career in medicine, while his mother, Natalia, also studied medicine. Karen has a sister named Margarita and a brother named Georgiy. He started playing tennis at the young age of three.
Khachanov turned professional in 2013. Throughout his career, he has secured seven ATP singles titles and one doubles title, accumulating over $19 million in prize money ($19,027,618 exactly).
His most significant achievements at Grand Slam tournaments include reaching the semifinals of the US Open in 2022 and the Australian Open in 2023. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Karen earned a silver medal in the singles competition, finishing runner-up to Germany`s Alexander Zverev. He was also a key member of the Russian team that lifted the Davis Cup trophy in 2021.
In July 2019, Khachanov reached his career-best ranking on the ATP tour, climbing to world No. 8.
Khachanov married Veronika Shklyaeva in 2016. They welcomed their first child, a son named David, in September 2019. Their second son, Mikael, was born in July 2023.
Currently, Karen Khachanov holds the world No. 24 position in the ATP rankings.
