Peleando contra los dragones ancianos calamitosos
Una vez que uno de estos formidables adversarios hace su aparición, deberemos llegar hasta él, generalmente empleando un Monstie con la habilidad de volar. En Azuria, lo encontraremos sobre el lago, donde podremos utilizar las corrientes de aire. Sin embargo, en el Bosque de Canalta, solo será accesible ascendiendo a la cima de la montaña o a la cabeza del dragón cristalizado en Tarcuán.
Los Dragones Ancianos Calamitosos son oponentes de una fuerza descomunal. Si bien es factible vencerlos en cualquier punto del juego con la combinación correcta de habilidades, objetos y Monsties de doble elemento, es aconsejable esperar hasta las etapas finales del juego o el posjuego para enfrentarlos. The vast combination of elements and abilities available grants us access to hundreds of creatures. However, even the most powerful Monsties pale in comparison to the might of Elder Dragons. This guide will provide you with the essential steps to attract Calamitous Elder Dragons and ultimately obtain their coveted eggs, though the task will not be easy.
We’ve designed this guide to be completely spoiler-free, so we won’t reveal the identities of the Elder Dragons you’ll encounter. If you’re a Monster Hunter enthusiast, you’ll surely enjoy discovering them for yourself. Additionally, we invite you to check out our full review of the game.
How to Attract Calamitous Elder Dragons
Although it’s possible to face these formidable creatures from the early stages of the game, our chances of success will be limited. To attract them, we simply need to engage in several battles during the night.
To change day to night, we have two methods available:
- Visit a Felyne Retreat (Gatavana) and select the option Wait for Night.
- Use fast travel to any Felyne Retreat or camp and choose the Night option.
During the night, our main task is simply to battle monsters. After approximately five or six encounters, a weather sequence will activate in one of the zones, indicating the appearance of a Calamitous Elder Dragon in Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection.
It’s important to note that these nighttime battles can be against smaller monsters and, to speed up the process, can be concluded with an automatic victory.
It’s also crucial to understand that the Elder Dragon won’t necessarily appear in the same area where the nighttime battles took place. While it’s common for it to emerge in the corresponding area, it’s possible for it to appear in a different one. For example, you might battle in Azuria and, upon seeing the weather change, discover that the dragon has appeared in the Canalta Forest.
To identify the Elder Dragon’s location, open the fast travel menu and look for the distinctive golden Elder Dragon icon next to the zone names, as illustrated in the accompanying image.
Fighting Calamitous Elder Dragons
Once one of these formidable adversaries makes its appearance, we’ll need to reach it, generally by employing a flying Monstie. In Azuria, it will be found above the lake, where we can utilize air currents. However, in Canalta Forest, it will only be accessible by ascending to the top of the mountain or to the head of the crystallized dragon in Tarcuán.
Calamitous Elder Dragons are immensely powerful opponents. While it’s feasible to defeat them at any point in the game with the right combination of skills, items, and dual-element Monsties, it’s advisable to wait until the late stages of the game or the post-game to confront them. We suggest reaching at least level 50 to tackle these battles with reasonable difficulty.
Battles against them follow a pattern similar to other bosses: you’ll need to identify their elemental weaknesses, focus on breaking their parts, and deplete their untamed spirit to stagger them. At certain times, it will be necessary to wait for them to perform specific actions to inflict significant damage.
An important distinction is that any damage you inflict will persist even if you are defeated. This means that upon re-encountering and battling that Calamitous Elder Dragon again, its health will not have been restored, allowing you to gradually deplete its health bar until its ultimate defeat.
Even if you suffer a defeat, you will still obtain monster materials, which are essential for forging powerful weapons. Since each piece of equipment requires at least three of these materials, it will be necessary to repel them multiple times.
How to Get Calamitous Elder Dragon Eggs
This is the most challenging phase. Elder Dragon eggs, like all others in Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, are found in monster dens. The key is that they will only begin to appear in a specific zone once you have defeated the Calamitous Elder Dragon residing in that same area.
When selecting eggs in a den, Rudy will explicitly tell you if you’ve found an Elder Dragon egg. Once you have it, you can take it to hatch and receive your very own Rank C Elder Dragon.
To obtain Rank S Elder Dragons, the process is identical to that of other monsters: release specimens through habitat restoration, seek out more Elder Dragon eggs, and continue the process until you achieve the desired Rank S.
