On Saturday night, Burns competed in the main event of UFC Vegas 106, where he suffered a first-round stoppage loss to rising contender Michael Morales. This defeat marks Burns`s fourth in a row, leading some fans to question how much the 38-year-old still has left to offer the sport. However, “Durinho” appears resilient and undeterred by the recent setback.
On Sunday morning, Burns released his first public statement since the loss, sharing a message of gratitude and offering praise for his opponent, Morales.
His statement read: “Thankful for this journey! I’m still super blessed! Of course, it wasn’t the outcome I was looking forward to, especially for this one. I work extremely hard, who saw, saw, but it’s the fight game and it’s life! Congrats to Michael Morales, wishing you and your team all the success! That’s is it no sad stories! A decorated grappler with world championships in both gi and no-gi Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Burns is also a former UFC welterweight title challenger, having fallen short against then-champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 258. His professional mixed martial arts record currently stands at 22 wins and 9 losses.
