Preview Gilbert Burns and Michael Morales Fight Moved to UFC Vegas 106 Main Event

A welterweight fight featuring Gilbert Burns and Michael Morales has been moved to headline UFC Vegas 106 on May 17. It was originally scheduled for the main card of UFC 315 on May 10.

The change was announced during the UFC 314 broadcast on Saturday.

Burns is currently ranked No. 7 in the welterweight division by MMA Fighting Global Rankings. Morales is undefeated and close to breaking into the top 15.

The reason for moving the fight from Montreal to a Fight Night event in Las Vegas is not yet clear.

Burns (22-8) is looking to end a three-fight losing streak. His recent losses were against current champion Belal Muhammad, and top welterweights Jack Della Maddalena and Sean Brady. Since his title fight against Kamaru Usman in 2021, Burns has a record of three wins and four losses in seven fights, and his overall UFC record is 15-8.

Morales (17-0) from Ecuador will be entering the most important fight of his career. He has won five straight fights in the UFC after a successful showing on Dana White’s Contender Series. His winning streak includes a first-round finish of Neil Magny in August, which earned him a bonus.

UFC 315 will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between Muhammad and Della Maddalena. Valentina Shevchenko will defend her flyweight title against Manon Fiorot in the co-main event.
