Preview Garry vs. Prates to Headline UFC Kansas City

Ian Machado Garry and Carlos Prates, both welterweight fighters, have agreed to be the main event for the upcoming UFC Kansas City show on April 26.

The UFC announced this new fight on Tuesday, but they didn`t explain why the original main event between Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree was cancelled.

Regardless of the reason for the Hill vs. Rountree cancellation, the UFC quickly arranged a new main event.

Garry is taking this fight after a close match with Shavkat Rakhmonov last December, which was considered a welterweight number one contender fight. Even though Garry lost, he gave Rakhmonov his hardest fight so far. Now, he has an opportunity to recover against a quickly rising star in the division.

Prates enters this fight with a perfect record of 4 wins and 0 losses in the UFC. All his wins have been knockouts in the first or second round. He was initially supposed to fight Geoff Neal at UFC 314, but Neal had to withdraw due to an injury.

Instead of finding a new opponent for Prates on that date, the UFC moved him to the main event in Kansas City, where he will now fight Garry.

The Garry vs. Prates fight will headline the event on April 26. Other notable fights on the card include Anthony Smith`s expected retirement fight against Zhang Mingyang, and a featherweight fight between Giga Chikadze and David Onama.
