Former UFC fighter Godofredo Pepey is currently in custody in Florida following his arrest on multiple serious charges, including kidnapping and domestic violence.

The 37-year-old Brazilian national is also being held under an immigration hold, which could potentially lead to his deportation from the United States.

Court records reveal that Pepey faces four distinct charges. These include kidnapping with the intent to inflict bodily harm or terrorize the victim, a felony under Florida law that carries a possible sentence of life in prison upon conviction.

Additional charges brought against Pepey are domestic battery by strangulation, tampering with communications, and touch or strike battery related to domestic violence.

Although bail was set at $120,000, the immigration hold ensures that Pepey will remain in custody for the time being.

Following the announcement of his arrest, Pepey`s wife, Samara Mello, who identifies herself as a domestic violence survivor, posted a statement on Instagram addressing the allegations against the veteran fighter.

In her statement, Mello highlighted the reality of domestic violence within the sports world, calling it a significant taboo, particularly in the combat sports community. She stressed that it manifests in various forms—physical, emotional, mental, sexual, and financial—and none are acceptable. Mello expressed gratitude for her survival and her intention to assist other women. She emphasized that domestic violence affects the entire community, not just the immediate family, and urged an end to treating it as a secret, stating that silence allows violence to escalate. She called upon authorities globally to take stronger action against domestic violence and femicide, asserting that the issue must be abolished. She also acknowledged support from the fight community and relevant organizations.

Pepey`s last appearance in the UFC was in 2018. The promotion did not renew his contract after he suffered back-to-back losses, ending his UFC tenure with a 5-6 record. Since leaving the UFC, Pepey has competed only three times, with his most recent bout being a loss in Ares FC in 2022.
