Former UFC flyweight contender Molly McCann is officially making the switch to the squared circle.

Matchroom Boxing announced on Thursday that they have signed the 35-year-old Liverpudlian athlete. Details regarding her professional boxing debut, including her first opponent and the date, are yet to be determined and will be announced later.

Matchroom Boxing Chairman Eddie Hearn commented on the signing, stating, “She`s officially signed with Matchroom Boxing… Molly McCann will now compete as a boxer, and I think it`s about time. She`s a former [Amateur Boxing Association] champion, everyone recognizes her boxing skill, and she`s become a massive global star within the UFC. We are delighted to begin this journey with her.”

McCann, known by her nickname “Meatball,” retired from mixed martial arts competition this past March after suffering a first-round submission loss. She compiled a memorable MMA career, notably capturing the inaugural Cage Warriors 125-pound championship in 2018 before transitioning to the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

During her tenure in the UFC, McCann experienced a mix of results. She gained significant popularity, especially in her native England, delivered several spectacular knockout finishes, and positioned herself near title contention with a strong 6-2 run between 2019 and 2022. However, her final stretch saw a challenging 1-4 record, including three first-round submission defeats, which ultimately led to her decision to retire from the sport.
