Lecce has confirmed that midfielder Medon Berisha's season has prematurely ended due to a severe injury, which may necessitate surgery for the Albanian international.

This news delivers a significant setback to the Salentini's aspirations of avoiding relegation from Serie A, given Berisha's crucial role as one of their most gifted players.

Berisha had been sidelined since December 12th, having been stretchered off just 11 minutes into their victory over Pisa.

Tragically, just as Berisha was nearing his return to the pitch, he sustained a new injury during Saturday's training session.

A club statement confirmed that subsequent medical tests revealed a lesion to the tendon in the rectus femoris muscle of his right leg.

While located in a different area, the injury affects the same leg. Berisha is scheduled to travel to Finland on Wednesday for a specialist consultation with Professor Lempainen.

Surgery is considered a probable course of action for this recent issue. The club's statement explicitly indicates that regardless of treatment, he will not be able to return to play for the remainder of the current season.

This season, Berisha had managed only 14 competitive appearances for Lecce, during which he contributed two goals and three assists.

The 22-year-old midfielder also boasts four senior international caps for Albania.
