RC Lens president Joseph Oughourlian has shared an ironic and disillusioned message regarding the potential postponement of their Ligue 1 match against Paris Saint-Germain. This statement comes ahead of the decisive LFP board meeting, scheduled for this Thursday, which will rule on PSG's request.
The Parisian club wishes to postpone the encounter, initially set for April 11, to better focus on their Champions League quarter-finals against Liverpool (April 8 and 14). RC Lens, PSG's runner-up in the league, firmly opposes this request, citing its commitment to sporting fairness and respect for the rules.
On Tuesday, Oughourlian expressed his skepticism: "May the discussions be lively during the next LFP board meeting (Thursday). That would mean that, when it comes to fairness, ideas can confront each other… I have few illusions!"
Lens coach Pierre Sage had already expressed his disagreement, recalling the calendar constraints his team has already managed, such as a French Cup match quickly followed by a league match. He emphasized that PSG, as a top-tier club involved in numerous competitions, is accustomed to such challenges.
For its part, PSG justifies its request by highlighting the broader interest of French football. The club stresses the importance of French teams' performances in European competitions for France's UEFA coefficient, which is currently under threat, ranking 6th for the 2025-2026 season.
