World No. 60 Joao Fonseca shared his thoughts after securing a victory in the second round of the Miami Masters. The 18-year-old Brazilian player defeated 20th-ranked Frenchman Ugo Humbert with a score of 6-4, 6-3.
“When the crowd is supporting one player, the atmosphere can get intense. Today, I started the match very relaxed, without any nerves. He seemed more tense and felt more pressure, while I simply stayed calm, and that really helped me.”
“My serve was effective, and I played confidently in my service games, securing an early break. He appeared a bit more nervous at the beginning. I started feeling very comfortable, and I think that was the key difference today,” Fonseca stated during the post-match press conference.
Fonseca is set to face World No. 11 Alex de Minaur in the next round.
