This summer, the world of soccer will witness a significant change with the introduction of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup. Hosted in the United States for the first time, this tournament will feature 32 teams from across the globe vying for a share of the substantial $1 billion prize fund.
Numerous prominent clubs are set to participate in this revamped competition, ranging from UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain to Argentine giants Boca Juniors, all aiming for deep runs. European teams constitute the largest contingent with 12 participants, while South America contributes six. Four teams each hail from Asia and Africa, and five, including three MLS sides, represent North America. Oceania secures a single spot, claimed by the competition`s only amateur team, Auckland City.
Although the fundamental goals are similar, the stakes vary for each team. Underdogs like Lionel Messi`s Inter Miami and Simone Inzaghi`s Al-Hilal hope to make an impact against expected European dominance. Meanwhile, several European powerhouses are tasked with living up to high expectations. This group includes Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Inzaghi`s former club, Inter Milan, who finished their domestic and continental seasons without silverware and view this as a final opportunity before the season concludes.
As the tournament progresses, here is an overview of the schedule and results from the Club World Cup matches.
