Feliciano Lopez, a former world No. 20, recently shared his opinion on whether grass courts are a favorable surface for the current world No. 1, Italy`s Jannik Sinner.
When asked if Sinner`s playing style is suitable for grass, Lopez responded:
“I believe so! His movement on court is simply incredible. To succeed on grass, you must move effectively, and he is arguably one of the best movers in the game right now. He possesses excellent movement, a strong serve, and one of the best returns I`ve ever witnessed. So yes, he essentially has everything needed.”
Lopez also commented on the significant improvement shown by British tennis player Jack Draper over the past eighteen months.
“Jack is a highly versatile player. If he continues to develop his game, he will possess strong opportunities against both Carlos [Alcaraz] and Jannik on grass courts.”
“He probably needs to enhance his consistency on a week-to-week basis. However, when he is playing his best, he has already demonstrated his capability to defeat anyone. We saw evidence of this in Indian Wells when he won a title, and in Madrid. And honestly, Jack is one of the players I genuinely enjoy watching compete.”
“His progress throughout the last 18 months has been nothing short of astonishing. I recall two years ago at the US Open, he was preparing for his opening match. I was concerned about whether he would even be able to play, as he had just recovered from a shoulder injury and had withdrawn from the Winston-Salem tournament the week prior. I was uncertain if he could endure a five-set match. And now, just two years later, he holds the world No. 4 ranking. It`s truly remarkable. In my view, Jack is poised to be a player who will contend with Carlos and Novak [Djokovic] for the most significant titles on grass.”
