Former UFC fighter Greg Hardy is currently held in jail in Richardson, Texas, awaiting arraignment following his arrest on charges linked to assaulting a family member.
Jail officials confirmed on Thursday that Hardy was taken into custody and remains incarcerated. The arrest took place around 2:29 p.m. local time on Wednesday, and he is expected to appear before a judge on Thursday to have bond set. TMZ was the first to report the arrest.
According to details from an arrest report obtained by MMA Fighting, the arrest stemmed from an alleged physical altercation involving Hardy and his girlfriend. Police indicated that after a dispute, Hardy allegedly “took her car and left.”
The incident reportedly began after Hardy`s girlfriend accused him of infidelity upon discovering messages with another woman on his phone. She told police she confronted him, and he allegedly told her to leave him alone. Hardy`s girlfriend claimed he then “pushed her, with both of his hands on her chest, and she fell onto the bed.” She further alleged that Hardy held her down with one hand on her neck, though she stated her breathing was not obstructed, nor did she lose consciousness.
As the situation escalated, Hardy`s girlfriend reported kicking at him to push him away. She claims he then grabbed her feet, spun her away, and took the keys to the vehicle before departing the scene. Police noted observing “scratches and redness” on her arms, consistent with a physical altercation.
Authorities made contact with Hardy, who confirmed having an argument with his girlfriend regarding messages found on his phone. He claimed she was “poking him in his forehead with her index finger,” asserting she caused no physical harm to him. Hardy told police he “moved her out of the way and placed her on the bed by grabbing her arms,” and was “adamant nothing else had happened.”
Based on the information in the report, police proceeded to arrest Hardy on the previously mentioned charges.
Hardy, 36, last competed in the UFC in 2022, where he suffered his third consecutive loss in the promotion before his contract was not renewed.
He is also widely recognized for his career in American football, having played defense for several teams, including the Dallas Cowboys.
His entry into the UFC was met with significant backlash stemming from a prior arrest in 2014 on domestic violence charges while he was still in the NFL. Hardy was initially found guilty, but the charges were eventually dismissed after his then-girlfriend did not appear in court for the trial.
Hardy also faced another arrest in 2016 for felony possession of a controlled substance after police discovered cocaine in his vehicle during a traffic stop.
