Former UFC Bantamweight Champion Holly Holm is making a significant move back into the world of professional boxing. She has officially signed with Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), and her first fight under this new banner is already set for June 28.
Holm`s boxing comeback bout will take place on the undercard of the anticipated main event featuring Jake Paul versus Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The event is scheduled to be held at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
The decision to partner with MVP came about after Holm expressed interest in a potential return to the sport where she originally made her name, following the conclusion of her recent run in the UFC. Holm is widely recognized in the MMA world for her spectacular head kick knockout victory over Ronda Rousey in 2015, which earned her the UFC Bantamweight championship.
Despite having multiple fights remaining on her existing contract, Holm requested and was granted a release from the UFC to pursue other fighting opportunities, paving the way for her boxing return.
Prior to signing with MVP, Holm had a brief association with the Global Fight League, a promotion that ultimately did not hold any events.
Regardless of that venture, Holm had publicly teased her desire to potentially step back into the boxing ring. She is an inductee of the International Boxing Hall of Fame, having achieved multiple championship reigns across various weight classes during her illustrious boxing career, which concluded with an impressive record of 33 wins, 2 losses, and 3 draws.
The upcoming fight will mark the 43-year-old veteran`s first professional boxing appearance since 2013.
For her return opponent, Holm is slated to face Yolanda Vega, a fighter holding a professional record of 10 wins and 1 loss. Their bout is scheduled as a 10-round contest in the lightweight division, with each round lasting two minutes.
Expressing her enthusiasm for this new phase of her career, Holly Holm stated:
“I’m excited to partner with Most Valuable Promotions and return to the boxing ring. This new chapter is going to be an exciting journey, and I’m looking forward to the challenge. Coming full circle back to boxing – I’ve spent most of my MMA career at 135 pounds, and now I have the opportunity to make my boxing debut at that weight. With boxing titles in three higher weight classes under my belt, I’m eager to pursue a fourth title in a new division.”
The entire fight card, including the Holm vs. Vega bout and the main event of Paul vs. Chavez Jr., will be broadcast and available for purchase on DAZN pay-per-view.
