2016 Olympic doubles champion Elena Vesnina commented on Andrey Rublev`s victory over Gael Monfils in the second round of the Monte-Carlo Masters (6/4, 7/6(2)).
“It was a very tough first match for Andrey. It`s important that he won the second set in the tie-break, even though Gael had four set points [on serve at 5/4]. Andrey is great, he continued to act aggressively and dictate his game. I am very glad that he managed to win this match, especially in two sets. Stretching it to three sets would have been dangerous; against an opponent like Monfils, you can`t relax and lose the thread of the game. Andrey is a great guy. It`s the first victory in tandem with Marat Safin!”
