Dricus du Plessis has responded to Khamzat Chimaev`s critical remarks.
Speculation arose on Sunday suggesting that the UFC middleweight champion, Du Plessis, might be injured, potentially delaying a planned championship match against Chimaev at UFC 317 in June. Chimaev reacted to these rumors on Twitter, dismissing Du Plessis`s situation as “bullshit.”
Chimaev wrote, “This guy biggest bullshit.”
Du Plessis countered Chimaev`s statement in the comments, questioning who is truly avoiding fights based on their recent activity.
Du Plessis responded, “Let’s take a look at the last 2.5 years and tell me who’s bullshit.”
Sources with knowledge of the promotion`s plans have indicated that more details about the middleweight title situation should be clarified soon. Another source mentioned that the current plan is for the middleweight title to be defended in the fall.
The UFC has not confirmed any specific date for a Du Plessis vs. Chimaev fight, nor have they publicly addressed the injury rumors concerning Du Plessis.
Following Chimaev’s tweet, Caio Borralho, another contender, has called for a fight with Chimaev and even proposed an interim title bout.
