Dominick Reyes proved his critics wrong with a spectacular knockout, defeating Nikita Krylov in the first fight of the main card at UFC 314.
After a series of losses, the former two-time title challenger has now achieved three consecutive finishes, with this latest victory being perhaps the most impressive. Krylov aggressively attacked from the start, but Reyes responded strategically, stunning Krylov with a strong jab early in the fight.
The fight unfolded similarly a second time. Krylov advanced, and Reyes expertly stepped back and unleashed a powerful left hand that landed cleanly. Krylov collapsed to the mat, immediately unconscious, as Reyes celebrated his victory. The fight concluded in the first round.
“I’m not back, I’m better,” Reyes declared. “Fighting Nikita Krylov is a serious challenge. He is a tough competitor and one of the most difficult opponents in the division, and I won. I am still a contender. I expect to be in the top 10 now. One more win and then a title shot, let`s go.”
The fight was defined by two key exchanges with comparable outcomes. Krylov charged forward from the beginning, while Reyes fought with a calculated approach. The initial jab with the right hand shook Krylov, but he recovered without further damage.
Despite the initial setback, Krylov continued with the same strategy, which proved to be a mistake the second time. As he moved forward again, Reyes delivered the decisive straight left hand that ended the fight. This knockout marks Reyes’ third consecutive win, all by finishes, positioning him firmly back in the competitive light heavyweight division.
