Featherweight contenders Diego Lopes and Jean Silva are set to headline the upcoming Noche UFC event in San Antonio, Texas, on September 13th. The fight is scheduled for five rounds and will serve as the main event.
UFC CEO Dana White officially announced the matchup on Tuesday night.
This bout features Lopes, a former title challenger looking to bounce back from his recent loss to Alexander Volkanovski, against Silva, one of the division`s fastest-rising stars who remains undefeated in the UFC after securing five consecutive victories inside the octagon.
Prior to his featherweight title opportunity, Lopes had built significant momentum with a five-fight winning streak, including notable triumphs over Brian Ortega, Dan Ige, and Sodiq Yusuff. Despite coming up short in his bid for the championship, Lopes is still recognized as one of the top-ranked fighters in the 145-pound weight class.
Meanwhile, Jean Silva, the 28-year-old competitor representing the Fighting Nerds team, has burst onto the scene in the division with a series of explosive performances since joining the UFC roster. His most recent outing saw him dominate Bryce Mitchell, finishing the fight with a remarkable ninja choke at UFC 314 in April.
Silva boasts a perfect 5-0 record in the UFC, with all five of his victories coming by way of either knockout or submission.
He will aim to maintain this impressive finishing streak when he steps in to face Lopes in September. A win in this main event clash could potentially position him for a future title shot.
The Noche UFC event is scheduled to take place in San Antonio, with more fights expected to be added to the card lineup in the coming weeks.
