World No. 12 Daria Kasatkina has spoken about the public`s response to her decision to represent Australia.
“I was incredibly touched by the positivity and support I’ve received since making this choice. It was a very difficult decision, but the positive reaction from fans and players means so much to me. Honestly, thank you,” Kasatkina stated.
She clarified, “I want to make it clear that my team contacted Tennis Australia about the possibility of changing citizenship, and they connected me with experts who could assist with immigration matters and provided a letter of support for my application.”
“I am proud to now represent Australia. And I hope everyone will be proud of me – both on and off the court,” Kasatkina wrote on social media.
Kasatkina previously commented on her move to Australia, saying: “Frankly, considering everything happening in my former country, I didn’t have much of a choice.”
