World No. 11 Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev commented on his recent practice session with World No. 3 Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz at the Rome Masters.
When asked about the practice session and its value, Medvedev explained how it came about: “My coaches arrange it. It seems there are quite few practice courts here, as I understand it. At certain times, you can`t train with your usual hitting partner. He was apparently alone at that moment, and I was alone, so they paired us up. Actually, it might not have even been the coaches who set it up, but rather just the practice sign-up board where people book courts.”
Regardless of how it was arranged, Medvedev found the session beneficial: “Anyway, we had a great practice. We played just four games afterwards, hit the ball really well, and I feel in good shape now. We were both hitting hard, it was cool, and of course, it`s always nice to play with top players, that goes without saying.”
Medvedev also looked ahead to his upcoming fourth-round match in the Rome tournament against Italian Lorenzo Musetti.
Asked about his potential opponent, who turned out to be Musetti, Medvedev said: “I just played Nakashima in Madrid, so I know how I`ll play against him, and he probably knows how to play against me. Of course, the court here is different. But I see Musetti is winning… He`s in good form. He`s a pure clay courter, so it will be interesting. I`ll need to show my best tennis to try and win.”
