Conor McGregor and Donald Trump might be collaborating on an event in 2026.
President Trump revealed at a rally in Iowa on Thursday his intention to hold a UFC event as part of the celebrations for Independence Day on July 4, 2026, which will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence.
Although no specific details were provided, social media immediately began speculating about the potential nature of the event. Several fighters also expressed interest in participating, notably UFC standout Conor McGregor.
On Twitter, McGregor wrote, “I would be honored. Count me in.”
McGregor also hinted at his highly anticipated fight against Michael Chandler.
As expected, Chandler welcomed the concept. He and McGregor coached opposite teams on The Ultimate Fighter 31 and were initially set to fight at UFC 303 in June 2024, but McGregor pulled out due to a broken toe.
In an Instagram Story, Chandler posted, “Anybody fancy a good old-fashioned, passionate red, white and blue ass whoopin on the lawn of The White House?”
McGregor has visited the White House previously. In March, the ex-two-division UFC champion visited 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and spoke to the press about his political ambitions in Ireland. Before this visit, Trump had spoken favorably of McGregor in a discussion with Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin.
As is often the case with McGregor, it remains uncertain how serious “The Notorious” is about potentially fighting on this proposed card. He will be 38 next July and hasn`t competed since suffering a leg break at UFC 264 in July 2021, where he lost his third fight against long-time adversary Dustin Poirier. Additionally, McGregor is presently involved in two civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault; one suit has concluded with a finding of liability against him (though his legal team sought to appeal, the evidence they presented is now under investigation).
Despite his somewhat diminished reputation, McGregor would undeniably attract significant attention and star power to a White House event, assuming it takes place. And he`s not the only fighter who has shown interest.
