World No. 2 Coco Gauff recently provided insight into her preparation and mindset regarding winning the French Open. The American player shared a photo on her social media story featuring a piece of paper on which she had repeatedly written the phrase “I will win the tournament” a total of eight times.
Gauff commented on the image, stating: “Ignore the handwriting, but I saw [athlete] Gabrielle Thomas do this. Couldn`t help but do the same lol.”
In a subsequent story, the American shared a screenshot of a note saved on her phone. The note read: “Had a dream yesterday that I would win Roland Garros. Idk if it`s true or if it will happen this year but that`s what I dreamt.”
The screenshot clearly shows that this note was created on June 8, 2021. At that time, Gauff was just 17 years old and ranked outside the Top 20 players. She managed to reach the quarterfinals of the French Open in that same year.
Reflecting on the old note, Gauff added a comment: “Look at the date. If you can imagine it, you can do it.”
