Preview Charles Oliveira Insists on Islam Makhachev Rematch at UFC 317: ‘The Fight Everyone Craves’

Following online exchanges with Ilia Topuria, Charles Oliveira has clearly stated his desired next opponent.

The former UFC lightweight champion released an Instagram video directly addressing UFC leaders Dana White, Sean Shelby, and Hunter Campbell, urging them to arrange a rematch against Islam Makhachev.

“I want to compete during International Fight Week,” Oliveira announced, referencing UFC 317, the upcoming pay-per-view event scheduled for June 28 in Las Vegas. “Makhachev also desires this fight. Dana, Sean Shelby, Hunter, let`s make it a reality. This is the fight everyone is anticipating. I am determined to reclaim my championship. UFC, let`s get this done. I`m ready.”

Oliveira was defeated by Makhachev via submission in October 2022 for the vacant title. Since then, his record stands at 2 wins and 1 loss, including a narrow decision loss to Arman Tsarukyan amidst dominant wins against Beneil Dariush and Michael Chandler. Makhachev has secured four consecutive victories since his win over Oliveira.

“Makhachev himself has indicated he wants this fight, recognizing it will be a significant battle,” Oliveira commented. “International Fight Week, is this the fight you desire? Then you shall have it. Dana, UFC, Sean, Hunter, let`s finalize it. Call me.”

“Do Bronx” had considered a BMF title fight rematch with Max Holloway as an alternative if the Makhachev rematch in June didn`t materialize. He expressed disinterest in facing Topuria, who responded to Oliveira`s assessment that a fight with him wouldn`t be “a big fight” with social media criticism.

“There are many in UFC and MMA who are excessive talkers,” Oliveira stated in his video. “My UFC history speaks for itself. I’m approaching 15 years here, holding records for bonuses and submissions. A record-breaker? That’s who I am.”
