Preview Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford Fight Rescheduled, New Location Pending

The planned boxing match between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford has a new date, and its location is expected to be announced soon.

Boxing promoter Turki Alalshikh confirmed through The Ring magazine that the highly anticipated super middleweight title bout featuring Canelo and Crawford will no longer take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on September 12th as initially scheduled. The event is now set for September 13th, though the specific venue has yet to be determined.

Cities currently under consideration to host the fight include Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and New York. This event is part of Alalshikh’s Riyadh Season pay-per-view series and will also mark the debut of Dana White’s TKO Boxing promotion.

According to ESPN, one factor contributing to the potential venue change is that the UNLV college football team is scheduled to play Idaho State at Allegiant Stadium on September 13th.

What makes the date change particularly interesting is that September 13th also coincides with UFC 320, which is scheduled to be held in Guadalajara, Mexico (promoted partly as the third UFC Noche event). While there`s a possibility the Canelo vs. Crawford fight could occur in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which would likely result in an earlier start time in North America, staging it in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, or New York as suggested would put it in direct competition with UFC 320.

Neither Turki Alalshikh nor Dana White has publicly commented on this potential scheduling conflict.

Canelo (record 63-2-2) recently became the undisputed super middleweight champion again on May 3rd by defeating William Scull. He had previously lost this status after being required to vacate the IBF belt, which Scull subsequently claimed. That recent fight was widely criticized for its lack of action and is reportedly the 12-round bout with the fewest punches thrown since CompuBox began tracking data in 1985.

Crawford (undefeated at 41-0) is moving up two weight classes from super welterweight to challenge Canelo. In his last fight in August, Crawford secured a unanimous decision victory over a competitive Israil Madrimov, maintaining his perfect professional record.
