Preview Caio Borralho Challenges Nassourdine Imavov for UFC Title Shot

Brazilian middleweight fighter Caio Borralho is eager to face Nassourdine Imavov in the octagon for a chance to compete for the UFC middleweight championship.

Borralho, nicknamed “The Fighting Nerd,” discussed his aspirations during a chess match in São Paulo. He mentioned he is awaiting Imavov`s agreement to a fight. Borralho, who enjoys chess and has played nearly 1,500 online matches since the pandemic, is on a seven-fight win streak in the UFC. His most recent victory was a main event win against Jared Cannonier.

“Imavov is the logical next opponent, assuming he agrees,” Borralho stated. “I believe this fight is essential and makes the most sense for the division. The winner should be the next in line for the title.”

He reiterated, “This fight is the most sensible option. I don`t think the UFC will give him much choice. If he declines, I will simply wait for my title opportunity later this year. However, I anticipate he will accept. He is currently performing well, confident, and believes he can defeat me, which I think will make for a great matchup.”

Imavov previously defeated Cannonier in June 2024 and has a record of 4 wins and one no-contest in his last five fights since his last loss, including a win over Brendan Allen and Israel Adesanya. Borralho predicts he will finish the French fighter, who is originally from Dagestan, in the second round.

“I foresee it being a two-round fight,” Borralho commented. “I will request a five-round fight, as it is appropriate for two contenders aiming for the belt. Fighting five rounds beforehand makes sense, wouldn`t you agree? I believe this fight will pave my way to the championship. Defeating the top contender, a skilled and rising fighter on a winning streak, will significantly boost my confidence. This is the type of challenge I need now. Moreover, facing the No. 1 contender is the direct path to my dream – the belt.”

The UFC has not yet announced the next opponent for Du Plessis`s middleweight title, but Borralho anticipates no surprises.

“I expect Dricus to fight Khamzat Chimaev next, although that matchup is also complex,” Borralho noted. “I have consistently underestimated Dricus and been proven wrong. I am hesitant to bet against him again, but I lean towards Chimaev winning due to his grappling skills. If Dricus doesn`t specifically prepare for that aspect, he might lose early in the fight. However, if Dricus can withstand the initial pressure, he might gain an advantage later in the fight.”

“Both fighters present unique challenges with distinct fighting styles. Chimaev excels in wrestling, while Dricus is the champion who has defeated many strong opponents and possesses great confidence. The belt adds further significance to his fights. I aim to fight the winner of that match and hope for a decisive victory to avoid a rematch and ensure I am the next challenger.”
