Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has been transferred to Wasco State Prison in California, marking his entry into the state`s prison system after being sentenced for multiple charges, including attempted murder, following a no-contest plea.

Velasquez received a five-year sentence and is currently housed at Wasco State Prison near Bakersfield, California. While Wasco is located about three hours from his San Jose home, it serves as a reception center where inmates are processed and evaluated before being moved to a long-term facility.

At Wasco, new inmates undergo physical and mental assessments to determine their security level and classification before being transferred to major California prisons like San Quentin or Folsom State Prison.

According to his sentence, Velasquez is eligible for parole starting in March 2026. This date could be moved up if the former UFC fighter earns credits for good behavior and participation in prison programs.

Although sentenced to five years, Velasquez`s term was reduced by over three years due to time already served. This includes eight months spent in jail after his initial arrest and time under house arrest with an ankle monitor after his release on bail.

Barring significant changes, Velasquez could potentially be released as early as March 2026.

Velasquez`s conviction stems from an incident where he pursued Harry Goularte in a high-speed chase. Goularte is accused of molesting Velasquez`s son at a daycare run by Goularte’s mother. Goularte is facing charges related to these allegations but was released from custody despite prosecution objections.

During the chase, Velasquez fired several gunshots at the vehicle, and Goularte`s stepfather, Paul Bender, was injured, sustaining non-life-threatening wounds.

Velasquez was arrested without resistance and faced numerous charges, including attempted murder.

Velasquez`s next court appearance is scheduled for April 16 for a restitution hearing. At this hearing, a judge will determine the financial penalties Velasquez must pay to the victims, which may cover lost income, medical expenses, therapy, and insurance deductibles.
