Brandon Royval, who is set to face Joshua Van as a short-notice replacement opponent at UFC 317, finds himself positioned as an underdog by some oddsmakers yet again. This isn`t an unfamiliar situation for Royval, who feels he is constantly overlooked by fans, fellow fighters, and the broader community, despite being ranked by the UFC as the number one contender in his division.
Speaking during the UFC 317 media day, Royval asserted, “I think I’m the most disrespected fighter in the UFC.” He explained that this sentiment is frequently reinforced, pointing out that throughout his entire UFC career, he has only been the betting favorite in a single fight (against Matt Schnell). This trend of being the underdog also characterized his fights in LFA. Royval believes this lack of respect stems from both fans and those who set the betting lines.
