Leading up to their championship main event bout for the welterweight title at UFC 315 scheduled for this Saturday in Montreal, both fighters participated in promotional activities. They exchanged mild verbal jabs before proceeding to the traditional faceoff.
It was during the faceoff that the situation briefly escalated physically.
As Della Maddalena extended his fists towards the reigning welterweight champion, Muhammad responded by swatting his opponent`s arm away. This action appeared to visibly provoke the Australian challenger.
UFC CEO Dana White quickly stepped between the fighters to prevent any further escalation, and the situation was rapidly de-escalated.
Aside from this particular incident, the other faceoffs during the UFC 315 press conference proceeded smoothly without issue. However, Quebec`s own Aiemann Zahabi seemed somewhat taken aback by the seemingly warmer reception his opponent, José Aldo, received from the local crowd compared to his own.
