Preview B.J. Penn Arrested for 3rd Time in 6 Days, Judge Denies His Restraining Order Request

Former UFC champion B.J. Penn was arrested for the third time within a six-day period on Friday. He was subsequently released after posting a $2,000 bond.

This latest arrest stemmed from Penn`s failure to appear in court, violating the terms of his previous bail agreement. That agreement followed two separate arrests related to abuse of a family or household member, leading to a bench warrant being issued for his arrest. According to a separate report from KHON2 in Hawaii, Penn requested the warrant be recalled, citing illness with COVID for his absence, but the judge reportedly disagreed, resulting in the third arrest.

In related court proceedings, a judge denied Penn`s request for a restraining order against his mother, Lorraine Shin. The judge stated the allegations did not provide a sufficient basis for relief. This marks the second time Penn has been unsuccessful in seeking such an order against his mother, following disturbing social media posts in which he claimed family members had been killed and replaced by imposters.

Conversely, his mother, Lorraine Shin, was granted a temporary restraining order against her son. This order mandates that he must stay at least 100 feet away from her at all times. Shin detailed instances of `extreme psychological abuse` she allegedly suffered at his hands.

In her initial court filing, Shin alleged recent incidents including Penn putting glue in a lock on her door to prevent entry and stealing her mail. The mail incident reportedly led to an altercation resulting in his arrest.

Shin`s statement to the court further claimed Penn blinded her with a bright flashlight to stop her from calling police after she spotted her mail in the backseat of a vehicle being driven by one of her son’s friends. When she attempted to retrieve it, she alleged Penn grabbed her arms and shoved her against the car, prompting her to scream for help from her other son, Reagan Penn.

Expressing concern for her safety, Shin told police she believes her son, B.J., may be suffering from Capgras delusional syndrome, a psychiatric disorder. She stated he holds the delusion that she is an imposter who has killed his family to take control of family assets.

Shin requested a six-month temporary restraining order and asked that her son be ordered to undergo medical treatment or therapy. The judge granted the restraining order, with the next court date scheduled for June 10.

The 46-year-old former UFC star`s recent behavior, including numerous posts about his family being murdered and replaced, has raised public concerns about his mental health. He also posted a video showing his initial arrest on the previous Sunday, the first of three arrests in under a week.
