Preview Aspinall ‘Has Had Enough’ Waiting for Jon Jones Bout

UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall is expressing significant frustration regarding the ongoing situation with Jon Jones, possibly more so than the fans.

Aspinall has actively sought a chance to unify the heavyweight title against Jones. Despite Jones` victory over Stipe Miocic in November, the long-awaited fight between Jones and Aspinall appears no closer to materializing even after several months.

During an appearance on the High Performance Podcast, Aspinall was asked what steps he could take to help make the fight happen.

“Me, personally, I can’t do anything,” Aspinall stated. “I believe the delay is primarily due to financial considerations on his part. I am willing to fight whenever and wherever he chooses, but it seems to hinge on money.”

He speculated that at this stage of Jones` remarkable career, considering his age, “He’s like 37, 38 years old,” and the considerable wear and tear from numerous fights (“he’s got a million miles on the clock”), Jones understands the physical toll. Aspinall clarified, “He’s got a lot of damage on the body, he’s taken a lot of shots to the head. And that’s not me saying anything negative. That’s the reality of it, and I’m sure Jon Jones is aware of that.”

Following his win against Miocic, Jones has left his next career move uncertain, potentially retiring or fighting Aspinall only if the price is right.

Aspinall acknowledges that Jones would naturally want a substantial payday late in his career. However, he admits he`s growing tired of the extended wait for Jones to commit and being constantly questioned about the potential matchup.

“When you put him in there with,” Aspinall explained, “and I’m not trying to boast, but I’m statistically one of the most dangerous fighters in the UFC. When you match him with a guy of my size and credentials at this point in his career, I think Jon, being intelligent, realizes the risk and therefore wants significant financial compensation for it.”

He concluded by stating his direct frustration: “I’m well bored of [talking about Jones]. I’ve had enough. The fight needs to be booked, or I need to move on to other opportunities.”
