Preview Aryna Sabalenka: Stopping Emotions on Court Helped Me Win Australian Open

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka shared her thoughts on her progress in the psychological aspect of the game.

– You mentioned that you no longer get upset when your serve isn`t working, something that clearly used to frustrate you. Have you been working on this psychological aspect?

– I used to face many difficulties. There was a period when my serve simply wasn`t effective, and I had to play without it. That`s when I realized I have other strengths and can win even without a serve.

One day, I decided that no matter what happens on the court, I will no longer show my emotions. I`ve been through much tougher things in life than a tennis match, so I told myself: enough, I won`t be that girl who gets angry and loses because of it anymore. This mindset worked. I believe it was that year that I won the Australian Open, and since then, I`ve become a different person, a different player. Psychologically, I`ve grown significantly,” Sabalenka said at a press conference after her victory in Miami.
