Former US Open champion and world No. 1 Andy Roddick has shared his thoughts on Carlos Alcaraz`s recent dip in form, offering advice to the current world No. 3.
Roddick suggests Alcaraz should aim to overpower opponents from the start of matches. “What I want is for Carlos to go out on the court and tell himself that in the first six games his goal is to `take the legs` out of his opponent,” Roddick stated. “Show that his ball is heavier than the opponent`s. Make the opponent feel like they are constantly under pressure in those first six games.”
He added, “I don’t think Carlos enjoys watching people beat him. He likes to be the one dictating, it`s his superpower. But it can sometimes become a weakness if it`s not used at the right moment.”
Roddick believes Alcaraz sometimes needs to embrace a slightly more patient approach. “By the time he learns to confidently play rallies of 10 or 12 shots, he`ll already be bored with it. While knowing that the opponent has nowhere to go because he is very fast and can accelerate from anywhere. I think sometimes he needs to be a little bored,” Roddick concluded, as reported by Punto de Break, referencing the tennis player`s podcast.
