World No. 52 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova commented on her first-round victory over Katie Boulter at the Rome tournament (6-3, 6-3), which ended a four-match losing streak dating back to February in Abu Dhabi.
Speaking about the win, her first in three months, Pavlyuchenkova stated, “I hadn`t won or played full matches almost since Australia. I`ve only played maybe two or three matches after the AO, all of which I lost. So, of course, it was very nerve-wracking to play today. And I still feel like I`m not 100% where I want to be. But I just fought for every point, and at that point, I didn`t care about the result. I just wanted to play as many matches as possible, I guess, to get warmed up for `Roland Garros`.”
Asked about her next opponent, Sofia Kenin, she replied, “Actually, we last played in Abu Dhabi. I won that match, and after that, my results went downhill. But I played well and actively there, and I`m also happy with my game today. I just need to keep going and build up my form, and I hope everything works out.”
