Roland Garros director Amelie Mauresmo explained why line judges were retained at the Paris major, despite the introduction of an automatic line calling system at clay tournaments.
Mauresmo said in an interview with Tennis Actu: “Initial feedback on the technology on clay shows that it is not always reliable. I am proud that we have kept the line judges. Perhaps in the future we will reconsider the approach, but for now, despite the pressure, we are in no hurry to follow the trend where machines will universally replace people from 2025. We are testing, learning and making decisions based on our own experience, and not on hasty trends.”
