American tennis player Alex Michelsen, currently ranked 34th in the world, shared his thoughts on the remarkable achievement of American players at the ATP 250 clay-court tournament in Houston, USA. He noted that an impressive eight American representatives reached the quarterfinals of the competition.
“It`s really cool,” Michelsen said after his match. “We have a lot of great guys in the Top 100 right now, around 12 or 13 players. American tennis is very strong. I hope one of us will eventually win a `Slam`. It`s been a long time since that happened, but at least we have eight quarterfinalists at an ATP 250 tournament.”
This is the first time since 1991 that the quarterfinals of an ATP tournament have been exclusively composed of American players. The Houston tournament takes place from April 1st to 7th. The reigning champion is American Ben Shelton, who defeated his compatriot Frances Tiafoe in last year`s final.
