Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz shared his thoughts after advancing to the final of the Rome Masters tournament. He defeated Italy`s Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinal with a score of 6/3, 7/6(4).
According to Alcaraz, Musetti`s nervousness was palpable due to playing in front of his home crowd.
“Musetti has been in this situation before; it`s his third consecutive Masters semifinal. However, it`s naturally tough when you`re playing at home and desperately want to win,” Alcaraz commented. “You have those thoughts, wanting to reach the final in front of your fans. And sometimes, those thoughts can work against you.”
Alcaraz observed his opponent`s state early in the match. “He made many errors at the beginning, he was very tense. I saw that,” Alcaraz explained. “And I tried to take advantage of that, to use his mistakes. I aimed to play smart and solid, and that`s why I managed to take the first set.”
Alcaraz shared these reflections during his post-match press conference.
