Preview Aaron Pico: UFC Was Always the Goal for True Recognition

Aaron Pico expressed gratitude for his experience in Bellator MMA, but he always believed that competing in the UFC was essential to be recognized as the world`s best fighter.

Following a single fight in the PFL after their acquisition of Bellator, Pico, now 28, became a free agent upon contract expiration. He immediately focused on joining the UFC. After resolving a contractual issue with PFL, Pico officially signed with the UFC on Tuesday, marking the start of a new, challenging phase in his career.

“UFC is the premier global organization, and it`s clearly the pinnacle of MMA,” Pico stated in an interview prior to signing. “It represents the highest level of competition. While talented fighters exist in other promotions, true respect and recognition, in my opinion, only come with being a UFC champion. The desire of fighters like Patricio Pitbull to join the UFC underscores this point.”

“Many fighters aspire to compete in the UFC because it`s the best. The level of dedication and effort within the UFC is evident. While other organizations also work hard, the UFC`s commitment is undeniable. I want to be part of that environment, where both the organization and I are dedicated to excellence, creating a successful partnership.”

Like Pitbull, who also sought and obtained his release to sign with the UFC, Pico desired similar opportunities, especially as he enters his prime and aims for a UFC title shot in the near future.

“I`m constantly improving,” Pico reflected. “Looking back at my early fights compared to now is remarkable. My understanding of the sport and my skills have evolved dramatically. Mentally, I`m now ready to face any opponent at featherweight. I genuinely believe I can defeat anyone in the world at 145 pounds. This confidence is a significant mental advantage.”

“In my initial years, despite my fighting spirit, there was always a degree of uncertainty. However, training with Brandon Gibson and coach Greg Jackson has been transformative. Their guidance and my dedication have brought me to a point where I`m confident facing any 145-pound fighter, or anyone in the world. Now is the time to prove it.”

Similar to Michael Chandler and Kayla Harrison, Pico joins the UFC with considerable anticipation and expectations, driven by his own high ambitions.

While not yet a mainstream name, Pico believes that joining the UFC will change that. He now has the platform to demonstrate his potential to a wider audience.

“UFC fans are yet to see what I can do,” Pico concluded. “I believe it’s a completely different stage, and I’m excited to compete on it.”
